About Me

Drummer, Percussionist and Composer Engin Kaan Gunaydin was born in Melbourne, Australia.
Being raised in a musical family, his interest in the art of making music developed at a very early age, initially studying piano.

After Primary school his family moved to Turkey, where he continued his studies and auditioned for the prestigious Bilkent University Music Department. He was accepted, receiving a full scholarship where he decided to pursue a career as a professional Drummer and Percussionist. For many years he performed as a guest member with the Bilkent Symphony Orchestra, and completed his studies with high honors.

Although he possesses a classical education, his interest in jazz and contemporary music drew him more to the drum set. In Turkey he performed with Sibel Kose, Kamil Erdem, Janusz Szprot, Tuna Otenel, Sertab Erener, Husnu Senlendirici, Mehmet Ali Sanlikol, Erkan Ogur, Fazil Say, Iskender Paydas and many more..

He won a scholarship and enrolled in the Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. In the USA, Engin has had the honor to perform with Tiger Okoshi, Al Di Meola, Scott Deogburn (Professor at Berklee College of Music), John Funkhouser, Oscar Stagnaro (Bass player for Paquito D’Rivera-Won a Latin Grammy in 2001) and Jamey Haddad (Berklee College of Music – Faculty – Percussion)

As a Berklee graduate, Engin now resides in New York City as an active drummer/percussionist and is a member of the NY Gypsy All Stars, a contemporary balkan ethnic group based in New York City.
